Mangifera Indica Leaf Extract description

_Mangifera indica_ leaf extract comes from the mango plant. While this plant’s star components are its fruit and its seed (from which moisturizing mango seed butter is made), growing research indicates its leaves also hold important benefits for skin. Studies demonstrate that, as with other parts of the mango plant, mango leaves exert antioxidant abilities that defend skin from pro-aging free radical damage. Perhaps most interesting, however, are a set of studies showing _Mangifera indica_ leaf extract has antimicrobial properties, particularly against _Cutibacterium acnes_, the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts. While there isn’t the breadth of research behind it as opposed to a proven acne-fighter like benzoyl peroxide, and it is not FDA-approved to treat acne, it does make mango leaf extract a potentially interesting supporting ingredient in skin care formulas designed to fight acne. Use levels of mango leaf extract in cosmetics range from 0.01–2% when used in pure form.
